Columbia 50 Yellowbird For Sale |
Yellowbird is for sale...
Originally commissioned in 1967-8 for Frank Druding--a pioneering Bay Area satellite/electronics entrepreneur (St. Francis Yacht Club and inspiration for Ice Station Zebra), Yellowbird originally had a mustard yellow hull and was built with an extra ton of ballast and somewhat shorter mast for Bay Area sailing. Her next owner, Scott Foster, is believed to have taken her on a complete South Pacific run. Her present owner purchased her in 1978 and has made a number of changes/improvements, including a "radical renovation—interiors/spars/deck gear/hardware changes and all-white paint job in 1982." The interior was "completely redesigned in a Swan all-teak aesthetic." She also has a custom-designed bow roller and pulpit, aluminum spreaders, maststep, stainless tanks, custom dual bilge pump system, etc. At present the good news is that the boat's core fundamentals remain excellent. There are no problems with the hull, ballast, tankage, rudder post, chainplates etc. The bad news is that she reportedly does need some work, perhaps an engine rebuild (although only 350 hours since Boatswain's Locker rebuild before salt water damage), deck/spar painting, brightwork (hull paint good...just buffing), refrigeration, etc. If you are interested please contact us and we will put you in touch with the owner. |
